If you were sitting at a party, you’d want to be placed beside a Matthew Williamson girl. Because based on last night’s A/W 11 show, she knows how to have a good time. Matthew is possibly one of our most light-hearted designers – it seems as if his clothes can throw a party all on their own. This time, he opted for a biker vibe, all leather trousers, wrap miniskirts and snug jackets in quilted leather. But his muse (which could have been Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo, Twiggy, Andrea Dellal, all of whom sat ringside) wasn’t pure Hells Angels. She mixed in Aztec tapestry oversized wool coats, billowing chiffon floor-skimming columns, fluid silk trousers in black, taupe or red, and skinny trouser suits in shiny jacquard. She doesn’t spend all her time on her bike, either: there was a simple bibbed red minidress that appeared positively formal, as did the sharp little jackets sliced at the lapel. Shirts with rolled-up sleeves, tucked into little woollen wrap minis, looked fresh and easy. Add
a fluffy Mongolian chubby and let the good times roll.
