If you hold your show in the Royal Courts of Justice, as Nicole Farhi did yesterday (below), it’s only right that your closing statement tells the whole truth to win over the fashion jury.
“We upscaled this season, with 27 models rather than 22,” said Farhi. “The finale is crucial for showing the combined effect of all your work.” Her money shot certainly didn’t disappoint the front row, with Sarah Bailey of Harper’s Bazaar calling the final act an “exquisite” showcase of the collection’s “disciplined colour palette and gunmetal grey”.
So, it’s all in the summing up. The line-up hammers home the brand point of view. At House of Holland, it was the grown-up cocktail looks that brought the show to a close. Read: my brand’s moving upscale and looking for a more sophisticated client. Unique’s relaxed tailoring and silky evening blouses finale also signalled its customer is growing up.
At PPQ, Amy Molyneaux sees the finale as “a concentrated vision” of the show’s themes. Adding bicycles for extra velocity can’t hurt, either.
